Load-duration Class

Eurocode 5 requires that actions are assigned to a "Load-duration Class". This is aimed mainly at modifying the characteristic strength and moduli of elasticity values.
The Load-duration Classes depend on the accumulated duration of the characteristic load, as defined below:
Class | Description |
---|---|
Permanent | More than 10 years (e.g. self-weight) |
Long-term | 6 months to 10 years (e.g. storage loads) |
Mid-term | 1 week to 6 months (e.g. imposed floor loads) |
Short-term | Less than 1 week (e.g. snow) |
Instantaneous | Instantaneous load (e.g. accidental loads) |
Please refer to Clause 2.3.1.2 for a detailed discussion.
